Becoming a Volunteer...
The Tempe Elementary School District invites and encourages parents/guardians and community members to volunteer.
Tempe Elementary values the time and commitment volunteers make to the students and staff in the district. Each volunteer has special gifts to share that enhance and enrich the schools. Being a volunteer brings rewards as well as challenges. With your help, the schools can maximize their potential and better meet the needs of students and staff.
The schools appreciate your support and any amount of time that you may be able to offer. Involvement can include: working in the classroom with students; helping with PTO/PTA sponsored activities; serving as library assistants, field trip helpers, room mothers/fathers or resource speakers; participating on site-based committees or serving as the extra pair of hands that helps extend the staff's time by copying, making materials or working on any one of a variety of classroom projects. Be ready to choose your day, time and particular area of interest when the PTO/PTA and teachers need additional help.
Because student safety is of great concern, volunteers are under the supervision of a certified staff member at their child's school.
Community volunteers are required to:
- Complete the Community Volunteer application. A new application must be submitted every school year.
- Be fingerprinted. You should be fingerprinted at least 60 days prior to volunteering. (See information in the FIngerprinting Section)
When your fingerprint clearance is received, we will notify you and the school site you requested on your volunteer application of your volunteer status.
Note: Community volunteers wishing to work in any of our preschool's must follow the same requirements as all volunteers but will need a TB scan test. A copy of the volunteer application must also be filed at the preschool site for licensing purposes.
Parents or guardians who wish to volunteer in their child’s classroom only (during the school day) are not required to be fingerprinted. However, if a parent/guardian would like to volunteer outside of their child’s classroom, in before and after-school programs, or will accompany students on a field trip, fingerprint clearance is required.
Parent volunteers are required to:
- Complete the Parent Volunteer application. A new application must be submitted every school year.
- Be fingerprinted, if needed. You should be fingerprinted at least 60 days prior to volunteering. (See information in the FIngerprinting Section)

We appreciate your time and your understanding as we take measures to ensure the safety of our students. Fingerprint information is required as part of our steps for processing community volunteer applications and parent applications (for those who wish to volunteer beyond their child’s classroom).
Fingerprinting is scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 8:30 AM-10 AM and is by appointment only. To schedule an appointment for fingerprinting, please call 480-730-7132. This service is provided at no cost to you. Identification will need to be provided when fingerprinted.
The process for receiving information from Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZ DPS) does take time and we ask that you be fingerprinted at least 60 days in advance. Volunteering cannot begin before fingerprint clearance is received.
After fingerprint information is received by the district from AZ DPS, we will notify you and the school site you requested on your volunteer application of your status.
Fingerprinting will not be required, if you have a valid fingerprint clearance card issued through AZ DPS. You will need to provide a copy of the valid fingerprint clearance card when submitting the application.
