Increase in School Meal Prices

The Governing Board approved price increases for school meals at the June 25, 2008 meeting.

Increases in labor costs, fuel, and food prices are having a significant impact on the Nutritional Services budget. Federal regulations from the USDA National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs require that Tempe Elementary School District meets specific nutritional standards and caloric levels that direct our food purchases.

With the current economic impact, it is necessary to increase the elementary school lunch prices from $1.50 to $1.75, the middle school lunch prices from $1.75 to $2.00, and the breakfast meal from $.075 to $1.00. The adult breakfast price increases from $1.00 to $1.50.

For more details about the increased costs and the history of the program, click on the PowerPoint presentation below.
