Mandatory School Uniform Policy for Students
Preschool - 5th Grade
The Frank dress code was established to help increase a sense of pride
for learning. We want each child to reach his or her potential in an
environment that is safe and free from learning distractions. We want
learning to be the focus for our children. We look forward to the positive
impact school uniforms will have on the academic environment and the
safety of our school.

• Procedures if a student does not comply with the uniform policy:
First Incident: Extra clothing will be available from the nurse. The
student will change into clothes from the nurse’s office. The
student will change back to his or her own clothes at the end of the
day.
Second Incident: Same as first incident plus loss of recess.
Third Incident: Same as first/second incident plus; a conference with
the parent will be scheduled.
Students will be given the option to transfer to another school in
Tempe Elementary District #3 which does not have a mandatory uniform
dress policy. The school district will assure such students’ admission
to another school located within the district. Transportation will
be the responsibility of the parent.
Potential Benefits of School Uniforms:
• Instill students with discipline, pride and school spirit.
• Help school staff recognize intruders on campus.
• Help prevent gang related clothing and insignia.
• Eliminate the competition among students related to clothing.
• Help students concentrate on schoolwork.
• Financial savings due to cost of uniforms versus other school clothes.
• Increase safety within the neighborhood.
District guidelines regarding
student clothing:
It is important for our children not to interrupt instruction by wearing
distracting or revealing clothing. Spaghetti straps, tube tops, shirts
with huge armholes (so the torso is exposed), very short shorts, or t-shirts
with liquor ads or inappropriate words or messages are not appropriate
for school. Also, open-toed sandals may cause a playground hazard for
your child. We appreciate your cooperation in monitoring your child's
dress.
