Staying in the Valley for Fall Break? Here are Some Tips to Enjoy the Week

News_Fall Break Fun_400x244Fall break is here! If you're staying in the Valley, we've complied a list of some fun things you could do to enjoy the week. Whether it's a fun activity at home or a community outing, there is lots for you and your kids to do here this week. 

Out and About

Visit a pumpkin patch

Now that it’s October, fall festivities are in full swing. Celebrate the season by visiting a pumpkin patch! There are several in the surrounding area.

Vertuccio Farms Corn Maze and Fall Festival
Location: Mesa, AZ
Admission: $10/person. Ages two and under are free.

Enjoy their seven-acre corn maze, mini-golf, mule-pulled wagon ride (Saturday and Sunday), giant jump pad and tube roll, mini zip line, mini hay maze, duck races, pumpkin bowling, an animal area, and more!

Rocker 7 Farm Patch
Location: Buckeye
Admission: $10 or less 
Open Friday-Sunday. View their site for specific times.

Enjoy exciting, family-oriented activities at this farm. After choosing pumpkins from their pick-your-own pumpkin patch, enjoy hayrides, a corn maze, petting zoo, jumping pillow, tractor tire playground, their educational barn, and more!

Mortimer Farms Pumpkin Fest and Corn Maze
Location: Dewey, AZ
Admission: $15.85 at the gate (view cheaper online prices)

Enjoy hayride tours, a big corn maze, farm rides and activities, craft and food vendors, animals, evening entertainment, a pumpkin patch, and more!

Bring the Star Wars Spirit to life at the Tempe Public Library
On Tuesday, October 9 from 2 - 4 p.m., participate in fun activities and make cool crafts inspired by the Star Wars universe! This event is recommended for kids ages 5-12 and their families.

Check out Oktoberfest at Tempe Town Lake
This weekend is Oktoberfest at Tempe Town Lake! It offers a Kinderfest, featuring fun activities for kids of all ages! Kids can enjoy a giant carnival, Hansel & Gretel Village, Primary Carnival Games, Bubble Mania, Ducktoberfest Pond, and gold panning! The festival runs October 12-14.

Enjoy a free movie at Kiwanis Park
Bring blankets and a picnic dinner to watch family-friendly films on one of the largest inflatable screens in Arizona! Every Friday, Kiwanis Park in Tempe hosts a free family movie showing. This Friday, Ratatouille will be playing at 6 p.m. To find out more, visit the City of Tempe website.

See a Childsplay show
One of Childsplay’s most popular shows, Charlotte’s Web, will be showing at The Herberger Theater Center Stage West on Saturday, October 13 and Sunday, October 14. It is recommended for those ages five and up. The show times are Saturday at 1 and 4 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m., and box office fees range from $12-$30.

Visit the zoo
Now that the weather is cooling down here, it’s the perfect time to visit the Phoenix Zoo! The zoo has over 3,000 animals, and activities for kids to participate in that enhance conservation awareness and understanding of the natural world. Check Groupon for discounted ticket options. 

Learn about African Penguins at the aquarium
In celebration of International African Penguin Awareness Day on October 13, OdySea Aquarium will be celebrating October 6-13 with specialty programs, offerings, and penguin-themed fun all week long!

See the new space exhibit at the Science Center
Learn more about space, our solar system and the universe at the Arizona Science Center’s new Cosmic Playground exhibit. Visitors can climb, slide, and explore the galaxy in a unique all-ages play space made almost entirely of household packing tape, and participate in an array of space-themed activities while immersed in cosmic light, sound, and motion.

Carve a pumpkin
If you’d rather not deal with the gooey mess that comes from inside the pumpkin, painting the outside of the pumpkin is a fun activity, too!

Make and enjoy fall treats
Caramel apples, pumpkin or apple pie, roasted pumpkin seeds...the possibilities are endless! Check out some fun fall treat recipes here.

Make a list of things your family is grateful for
Fall brings in a season of thankfulness. Work with your kids on making a list of things you are all thankful for, and display it in the house as a reminder. Here is a fun way to showcase your list.
