Scales Technology Academy Offers Annual Student Dance Opportunity with Ballet Arizona
Scales Technology Academy not only places an emphasis on technology integration, but there is also an emphasis on the arts thanks to an annual partnership between the school and local dance company, Ballet Arizona through their Class Act Program.
For three weeks, two company members from Ballet Arizona worked with 20 Scales students after school to create an all-new dance from start to finish. Combining the talents and experience of Ballet Arizona’s dancers with the ideas and energy of our students, the creative choreography made its debut at a recent all school assembly for Scales Technology Academy students, parents, and staff.
Scales students twirled, sashayed, and even did the splits on stage as their entire school cheered and enjoyed their performance. At the end, students gathered together to hold hands and take a bow with big smiles on their faces.
“I was a little nervous to perform in front of everyone, but once the music came on I remembered all my moves and had a lot of fun!” said Fourth-Grader Leif Simpson.
“I loved it!” said Fifth-Grader Abyan Hassan. “The best part was learning all the new positions.”
The past three weeks have not only been enjoyable for students, but it was enjoyable for the company members as well! Ballet Arizona Teacher Kleiton Sistelos worked alongside Scales students and noted that this unique experience is one he will remember!
“The students taught me how to teach them,” said Sistelos. “It’s great to see how much they have grown with their dancing. A few of them have even expressed that they want to continue ballet lessons!”
After the student performance, the entire school was able to enjoy two performances by the Ballet Arizona company. The company shared a contemporary dance performance and then a classical performance. The classical performance was a portion of the well-known holiday classic, The Nutcracker.
Students could be heard “oohing and aahing” as dancers swept across the stage, jumped elegantly in the air, and spun in circles on their toes. After each of the performances, a faculty member from Ballet Arizona explained the significance of the dance to the audience. Students even had a chance for a question and answer session with two of the lead ballet dancers in The Nutcracker!Scales Technology Academy was proud to host Ballet Arizona at their school last week for both the student and company performance. Scales is committed to making sure every family has a positive educational experience through offering multiple programs that help ignite students’ passion and creativity! Thank you Ballet Arizona for your partnership with our school and helping us to fulfill our school’s commitment!
