TD3 To Receive Eight New School Buses Thanks to Bus Driver Grant
TD3 will be receiving eight brand new school buses that will be ready for the 2019-20 school year!
Governor Doug Ducey released a $38 million plan to purchase more than 280 new school buses in low-income communities across the state. The qualifications for school districts are: 60 percent or more students who are eligible for free or reduced price lunch, school buses that are at least 15 years old, and have more than 100,000 miles. School districts that met this criteria were to apply through a grant process. TD3 has 15 buses that meet this criteria.
On December 6, 2018, 55 school districts and charter schools received funding approval for the purchase of 142 school buses – TD3 was approved for eight. This equals $880,000!
A basic bus costs around $110,000, and TD3 bus specifications are around $190,000. Thanks to the support of our community and their approval of bonds, the District is able to cover the additional cost for the school buses!Thank you to the entire Transportation and School Safety Department for their work to ensure our students are safely taken care of on their journey to and from school!
