Broadmor Students Visit Central Kitchen, Learn About Nutrition
Students in Samantha Harden's first-grade class from Broadmor Elementary School took a field trip in their own backyard to our very own Central Kitchen last week, and got to see how the Nutrition Services Department prepares fresh meals and local produce for students every day!
"It was really eye-opening to see how everything was prepared so fresh and I really had no idea," said parent chaperone Jaime Boyd.
Members of the Nutrition Services team prepared some of their signature recipes for students and parent chaperones to try, including hummus, zucchini muffins, and fresh salsa.
"I loved seeing how invested all the employees were in bringing the class around," said parent chaperone Sarah Klontz. "I can tell that they love their job, that it mattered to them, and that they took pride in what they did. It was great and I'm glad this was a part of my son's day."
Emma Kitzman, Nutrition Services Supervisor, shared that their department's whole focus is on the student and ensuring that they have a positive experience when they enter the lunch line.
"We're passionate about what we do because at the end of the day, we want the best food and nutrition for our students," Kitzman said. "Today, we wanted to make sure they understood that connection of the extra effort we do to make sure we are using high quality ingredients in all of our food products."
