Post Date:05/17/2019

Ward A+ bannerThe Arizona Educational Foundation (AEF) recently announced the names of the Arizona public schools that received the coveted A+ School of Excellence™ award and included on that list is Tempe Elementary School District’s Ward Traditional Academy!

This award evaluates the areas of student focus and support, school culture, active teaching and learning, curriculum, leadership, community and parent involvement and assessment data.

“The A+ School of Excellence™ is a phenomenal award for the Ward community. It means that we are going above all expectations in meeting our community and students’ needs for a school,” said Principal Dr. Taime Bengochea. “I am so proud of the cohesive family school that Ward has become.”

On Thursday, the whole school came together to celebrate their school’s achievement. The band and orchestra performed for the crowd, cheerleaders led everyone in a Ward cheer, and then heard from Arizona Educational Foundation’s Gayle Holland about why they were chosen as an A+ School of Excellence™.

“When I came to visit, I was so impressed with you kids. What you showed us was how much you care about your school, each other, and your teachers. That was very important,” Holland said. “We also met with the teachers, and they are so dedicated to providing you with the best education possible, so you’re very, very lucky.”Ward cheerleaders

Special guests of honor in attendance at the event were Tempe Elementary School Board Members Teresa Devine, Rochelle Wells, and Charlotte Winsor; Superintendent Christine Busch, Executive Director of Human Resources Mike Minghine, Executive Director of School Leadership Dr. Christine Trujillo, State Representative Jennifer Jermaine, and State Senator Sean Bowie.

“The A+ School of Excellence™ program celebrates outstanding schools throughout Arizona, calling attention to the positive stories and successes occurring in public schools,” said AEF Executive Director Kim Graham. “The application and evaluation process for this program is comprehensive and rigorous. We applaud these schools for exceeding expectations to meet their students’ needs and for achieving overall success despite the many challenges that face the education community statewide.”

Ward Traditional Academy received $500 and a banner designating them as an A+ School of Excellence winner. The award is valid for three and a half years.

Congratulations to Ward Traditional Academy for achieving this recognition and for inspiring excellence in the Tempe Elementary School District!
