Banessa Fleming is 10 years old and currently in fifth grade. She might seem like your average 10-year-old, liking the same things that typical tweens do, but Fleming is also currently National American Miss Arizona Junior Pre-Teen Queen. As part of the National American Miss pageant, she participated in a community service project – a book and school supply drive. She and her fellow pageant participants gathered books and school supplies to support the local community.

Once she was crowned, Banessa was asked to deliver the supplies to her favorite organization. Fleming chose Frank Elementary School after participating in a volunteer service project two years ago with her dad. His company, formerly known as Orbital ATK, now Northrop Grumman, volunteered to help paint a large United States map and four-square courts on the Frank grounds, and even though she was quite young, Banessa helped that day. She still remembers this and wanted to return to Frank Elementary to donate the supplies to the elementary students who might be less fortunate.

When asked, why Frank? Fleming responded, “Because I love this place! It makes me feel happy to help other people. I love helping others and making new friends.”

Fleming donated miscellaneous school supplies, including backpacks, pencil sharpeners, markers, books, lunch boxes, highlighters, pencils, crayons, colored pencils, folders, binders, composition books, and notebooks.

Banessa loves school, so it only seems fitting that she chose to help a school. It’s her way of giving back. When asked what she loves about school, Fleming said, “Everything! I love math, art, and PE.” Fleming sets her goals high and aims to reach them: to get straight A’s in school, to work hard to get pointe shoes for ballet, and to continue to volunteer at Feed My Starving Children once a month.

Fleming likes to be positive and help those who are less fortunate or who have dealt with a tragic event. Her number one mission is to help girls be confident. She frequently shares this quote, “No matter who you are, what you are, you are beautiful.”

Thank you, Banessa Fleming, for your act of kindness in donating books and school supplies to Frank Elementary School. You have made a difference in the lives of students in need!
