English Learning

Tempe Elementary Schools' English Learning (EL) program provides guidance, assistance, and support to students whose native language is other than English and/or who is not yet proficient in English.

The program is designed to promote student success in school by providing targeted instruction in listening, speaking, vocabulary, reading, writing skills and grammar to become proficient in the English language. 

Tempe Elementary provides EL instruction aligned to the Arizona English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS), provided in accordance with the service model requirements outlined by the Arizona Department of Education and the Office of English Language Acquisition Services (OELAS).

Additional English Learning Services

The English Learning team provides services for interpreting, translating, and mentoring for the District. Additionally, English Learners and their families are given opportunities to participate in community activities and programs that help parents support their children's learning and involvement in school.

Program Qualification

These procedures are implemented in accordance with ARS 15-751-756.
