Superintendent
Revolutionizing Education
Dr. James Driscoll began his journey as Superintendent of Tempe Elementary Schools in July 2021.
Under Dr. Driscoll’s servant and transformational leadership, the District has taken on initiatives reflective of the new district-wide five year strategic plan launched in 2022.
The future of elementary teaching and learning has pivoted quickly under his leadership, establishing high standards for educators, implementing a unique learning framework, setting goals and measuring results aimed toward revolutionizing instructional planning, and empowering students to be future ready.
Dr. Driscoll recently participated in the Fellowship for Public Education Leadership cohort run by the Broad Center at the Yale School of Management. In June 2025, he was also selected to join the 2025-2026 cohort of the Google GSV Education Innovation Fellowship – a groundbreaking program formed through a partnership with Google for Education.
His early roots in education began as a classroom teacher both in elementary and middle school suburban and urban settings. His administrative experience also includes positions as Principal, Dean of Students, Assistant Principal, District Hearing Officer, Director of Special Education, Assistant Superintendent of East Area K-8 Schools and of Human Resources.
Dr. Driscoll earned his first degree, Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education, at Arizona State University. He then continued his academic career by receiving a master’s degree in Educational Leadership, a master’s degree in Human Relations, a master’s degree in Special Education, a master’s degree in Business and Administration, and a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership. Born and raised in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan, Dr. Driscoll is a proud husband and father to two young girls.
Our focus is to change the trajectory of all students' lives, introducing bigger ideas and a broader world than their own.
