The District will hold a special Maintenance and Override (M&O) Budget election and special District Additional Assistance (DAA) Override election Tuesday, November 5, 2019.

November 5, 2019 M&O Override Election

The District is asking the voters of Tempe Elementary to approve a $9,600,000 bond on November 5, 2019. The Maintenance & Operations (M&O) override funds will be used to maintain smaller class sizes in kindergarten through fifth grades, provide general and instrumental music in preschool through 8th grades, physical education classes, gifted education programs, counseling services in every school and additional support for students to increase academic achievement. 

How will the funds be spent?

The override will provide funds to pay for the following:

  • 36 Additional teachers to maintain class - sizes in kindergarten through fifth grade
  • 35 General and instrumental music teachers
  • 30 Physical education teachers
  • 22 Gifted education teachers
  • 15 counselors
  • 7 Full day kindergarten teachers
  • Additional academic assistance opportunities for students including after-school intervention programs

Will this increase taxes?

No new tax is being requested. The total impact on the tax rate is $0.57 per one hundred dollars of net assessed valuation. For a home valued at $100,000, this amounts to $57 per year. Reauthorization will be a continuation of the tax.

November 5, 2019 DAA Override Election

The District is asking the voters of Tempe Elementary to approve a $35,000,000 bond on November 5, 2019. The District Additional Assistance (DAA) override funds will be used to provide musical instruments, school-based educational technology, school furniture and equipment, and information, management and security technology systems district wide.

How will the funds be spent?

Replacement of Musical Instruments - $1.5 million

The District has a music program that extends to all grades and all schools. Funds will be used to replace instruments at all schools.

School-Based Technology - $18.2 million

These funds will be used to provide:

  • 1 to 1 Access to technology at all schools and all grade levels
  • Classroom projectors, document cameras, printers and other peripheral equipment
  • Instructional software applications and assistive devices
  • Teacher laptops

    Information and Management Technology Systems - $11.6 million

    These funds will allow the District to continue the maintenance of its operational systems including:

  • Student attendance and records software (Synergy)
  • Financial and human resources software (MUNIS)
  • District website, cloud security, web filter and firewall software

    School Furniture and Equipment - $3.7 million

    Funds will be used to provide:

  • New furniture for new school construction common areas such as the library and classroom breakout spaces
  • New playground equipment
  • New kitchen equipment
