On September 1, 2011, Tempe Elementary School's Governing Board was awarded the prestigious Arizona School Boards Association Total Board Boardmanship Award. The award recognizes that all members of a board have received continuing education through ASBA training, workshops and college coursework. The award shows Tempe Elementary Governing Board members' devotion to gaining knowledge and techniques for effective leadership. The Governing Board also won this award in 2004.

In 2005, Tempe Elementary was one of only three Arizona school districts who received awards from the Arizona School Boards Association's Safety Committee, in conjunction with the State Compensation Fund of Arizona, for their education of school district personnel about safety in the workplace.
