Tempe Elementary Kindergarten Program

Where Bright Futures Begin.

Enroll In Tempe Elementary Schools, no matter where you live! Tempe Elementary has offered free, full-day kindergarten at all of its elementary schools since 2000. Our long-standing program is based on years of experience in delivering a full-day curriculum. For parents who prefer it, we also provide a highly acclaimed half-day kindergarten program at one of our elementary schools.


Age Requirements:

If your child turns 5 years old on or before August 31, 2018, he or she is eligible to start kindergarten for the 2018-2019 school year. 

We welcome ready 4-year-olds! Children turning 5 years old between September 1 and December 31, 2018 can start kindergarten for the 2018-2019 school year in any of our schools as long as:

  • they pass our FREE, one-hour readiness screening,
  • AND they enroll and start school within the first week of the school year. Four-year-olds may not start school after the first week of the school year!

Children turning 5 January 1, 2019 or after are NOT eligible for kindergarten for the 2018-2019 school year. Please visit our Preschool website at: to see our preschool options.

Before- and afterschool care
Award-winning before- and afterschool care is available at or near most of our schools through the East Valley Boys and Girls Clubs, City of Tempe Kid Zone and with other local organizations. How to Enroll:

Step 1: Complete the enrollment packet. Click here to request an enrollment packet, or download the packet here.

Step 2: Gather required documents:
  1. Child's certified birth certificate
  2. Immunization records
  3. Legitimate proof of current address (such as mortgage, rental or lease agreement, utility bill, phone/cable bill, bank statement, etc.)
  4. Open Enrollment Application - only necessary if you live outside the attendance boundary for the school you are enrolling in

Step 3:

Registration Dates & Locations: (Schools are closed for the summer after June 8, 2018.)

Register at the District Office, 3205 S. Rural Rd. (northeast corner of Rural Rd. and Southern Ave. in Tempe) Monday through Wednesday, 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1:30 to 4 p.m. June 12 - July 11, 2018. (District Office will be closed on July 4 in observance of Independence Day.

Registration will NOT be available at school offices or at the District Office from July 12-17. Registration will resume on July 18, 2018 at school offices.

Screening Process for 4-year-olds

Only children turning 5-years-old September 1 through December 31 are required to be screened. During the screening, the parent will answer a short questionnaire and the child will complete some age-appropriate tasks.

We will host screenings at Bustoz Professional Learning Center, 2020 E. Carson Dr., Tempe, AZ 85282, on the following dates/times:
  • July 23 - 8 a.m.-2 p.m.
  • July 24 - 12-7 p.m.
  • Beginning July 30-August 10 screening will take place at schools
Kindergarten hopefuls can take one screening during this July 23-August 10 timeframe.  


No appointment is necessary.

Meyer Montessori is located at 2615 S. Dorsey Ln., Tempe, AZ 85282 on Dorsey Lane and Alameda Drive. It will be added to this map in the near future.
