Classroom Celebrations

The health, safety and nutrition of children is a top priority for the Tempe Elementary School District. To this end, all foods and beverages made available on campus during the school day must adhere with the Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010 (HHFKA) and Arizona Revised Statute 15-242. These statutes regulate the nutrition standards for all foods sold or served to students outside of the breakfast or lunch programs during the school day. Tempe Elementary Schools Board Policy JL-R also reinforces this “Smart Snacks” regulation.

To meet these regulations, Tempe Elementary Schools' Nutrition Services teams offers specialty items for purchase for classroom celebrations that meet the nutrition standards.*
